GTA 6 HUD: visible controls, menus and unanswered questions

The Extended Look shows an equipment menu, weapon readouts and character portraits. It does not explain every bar or symbol. Here is a labelled tour of the interface we can actually see.

This breakdown uses Rockstar’s official Extended Look. The timestamp links open the source at the relevant moment, so you can compare the description with the moving sequence.

What the footage shows

An items menu exposes wearable equipment

The overlay separates WEAPONS and ITEMS. A face wrap, glasses, cap and clothing-hanger tile are visible with an equip action.

Watch 17:50–17:53

The displayed examples do not define the complete inventory or disguise mechanics.

The equipment overlay includes an appearance control

After the face wrap is equipped, the lower-right text includes WEAR STYLE and TAKE OFF controls.

Watch 17:51–17:52

This does not explain every wearable item or possible style.

The equipment menu shows two money readouts

Two dollar amounts appear together at the upper right of the equipment menu: 15,150 and 700, with different icons.

Watch 17:50–17:53

Do not label the amounts bank balance, cash, premium currency or character-specific funds without an explanation.

The equipment view shows three coloured status bars

Pink, cyan and purple bars are visible together at the top-left of the equipment menu.

Watch 17:50–17:52

Do not assign the cyan bar to stamina, armour or hunger without a label.

The weapon display changes with the equipped gun

A pistol display gives way to a carbine silhouette with different ammunition counts as Jason fights through the offices.

Watch 24:49–25:24

The paired numbers do not reveal complete inventory limits.

The in-car view changes after a portrait selection overlay

A two-portrait selector appears during the night drive before the camera changes to the armed passenger’s viewpoint.

Watch 18:41–18:44

The UI and changed viewpoint are visible; switching conditions and limits remain unexplained.

Three dog actions and a target label

SCOLD, PET and STUDY appear beside the targeted DOG label; Jason pets it.

Watch 01:54–02:06

DOG is the target label, not a fourth action. STUDY does not establish a compendium.

Phone conversations can appear as floating message cards

Lucia’s contact avatar and text appear over the scene while she uses her phone.

Watch 23:47–23:56

This does not establish every phone app or full customisation menu.

What this means

The useful distinction is between a readable control and an inferred rule. Equipment tabs, action labels and weapon changes are directly visible. Status-bar meanings and switching restrictions still need an explanation. For the detailed aiming sequence and wanted display, use the dedicated breakdowns below.
