GTA 6 New Zealand trick: can UK players unlock it early?

Can changing your console location to New Zealand get you into GTA 6 early? We have not verified that workaround for GTA 6. There is a real 13-hour difference between the New Zealand and UK PS5 Standard Edition listings, but a regional release time does not prove that a UK purchase can use it.

This guide separates three things: the storefront’s scheduled release, the console’s location setting and the licence your account owns. Checked on 3 November 2026; access cannot be tested before the relevant unlock window.

What time is the New Zealand release in the UK?

These times come from the New Zealand PlayStation Store and UK PlayStation Store. New Zealand is on NZDT, 13 hours ahead of GMT, on these dates. The table compares those specific listings; it is not an Xbox timetable or a promise of early access for UK accounts.

What is the New Zealand trick?

The idea is to select New Zealand as a console’s location and try a game when that region reaches release time. It relies on the game’s actual unlock rules accepting that location for the licence you own. A single worldwide release would remove the time-zone advantage, and a regional timetable alone cannot establish whether changing a setting changes access.

For GTA 6, we have verified the two PlayStation listings above. We have not verified an Xbox playable unlock time or successfully tested a UK licence with a New Zealand location. Treat claims that it “definitely works” as unproven until there is game-specific evidence.

Where is the Xbox location setting?

Microsoft’s official instructions apply to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The console path is: open the Xbox guide, go to Profile & system, then Settings, System, and Language & location. Choose a country under Location and restart the console. New Zealand is the location discussed in this workaround; changing the clock display alone is not the same action.

Microsoft recommends region changes for a long-term move. Its guidance warns that regional content and services can differ and account funds do not transfer between regions. Read that guidance before changing anything. This setting’s existence does not confirm GTA 6 early access, so we would not change a purchase or buy another copy on that assumption.

Can you do the same on PS5?

PlayStation’s account-region guidance says an existing account’s country cannot be changed. Your account country should match your billing details, and voucher regions must match the account. Changing the PS5 clock or viewing the NZ web store does not turn a UK purchase into a New Zealand licence.

The earlier NZ listing is useful information for players whose purchase belongs to that region. It is not a simple PS5 settings shortcut for an existing UK account. Check the release countdown attached to your own purchase, and do not assume another region’s add-ons or codes will match it.

Does it help with the preload?

Rockstar’s preload announcement sets Xbox downloads to one worldwide opening: 10 November at 00:00 GMT. Moving the displayed region cannot make that published global opening earlier. PS5 preload is midnight local time, but downloading files still does not make the game playable.

Useful launch preparation you can do now

• Open the purchase library on the account that owns the game and confirm its edition and region.
• Use the preload checklist to check storage, automatic downloads and power settings.
• After preload opens, inspect the actual download queue and completion status.
• Check the release time shown for your own purchase close to launch, keeping the time zone attached when making plans with friends.
